How much does it cost to
charter a private jet

Charter pricing comes down to the aircraft class you need, the distance you fly, and the fees that sit on top of the flying time. This guide sets out the indicative 2026 bands and the costs that move a quote up or down.

The short answer

How charter is priced

Charter is quoted by the trip rather than by a published seat price. The building block is an occupied hourly rate for the aircraft, multiplied by the flying time on your route, with fees added on top. The single biggest driver is the class of aircraft, because a light jet and a heavy jet differ in fuel burn, crew, and capability.

The bands below are indicative planning figures for 2026. They are not live quotes. A firm number depends on the exact routing, the aircraft offered on your dates, and the fees described further down this page.

Indicative bands

Hourly rates by aircraft class

Indicative 2026 range
Occupied flight hour, planning guide only
Turboprop$1,600 to $2,500 per hour
Light Jet$2,400 to $3,900 per hour
Midsize Jet$3,500 to $5,200 per hour
Super Midsize Jet$5,000 to $7,500 per hour
Heavy Jet$7,500 to $13,000 per hour
Ultra Long Range Jet$12,000 to $20,000 per hour
VIP Airliner$18,000 to $32,000 per hour

Use these as a way to gauge the order of magnitude for a route, not as a price you can book. Within any class, a newer aircraft or one based near your departure point can sit at a different point in the band than an older aircraft that must reposition a long way to reach you.

On top of the hourly rate

What else sits in a quote

Several costs sit alongside the flying time. Repositioning, sometimes called ferry time, covers bringing the aircraft to your departure airport and returning it to base. Landing and handling fees apply at each airport, and international trips add customs and navigation charges. Crew expenses cover duty time, overnight stays, and meals when a trip keeps the crew away from base.

Taxes vary by region. Flights within the United States carry the federal excise tax, while many European charters carry value added tax. Catering, ground transport, de icing in winter, and peak day surcharges around busy travel dates can all appear. A good advisor itemises these so you can see what is flying time and what is everything else.

How to compare quotes fairly

Ask whether each quote is all in or whether fees will be added later, and confirm the aircraft class and tail being offered. Two quotes are only comparable when they cover the same routing, the same number of legs, and the same inclusions.

Confirm whether you are speaking with the operator that holds the air operator certificate or with a broker arranging the flight. Both can serve you well, but you should know who carries operational responsibility and how the aircraft and crew are vetted. Send us your route and dates and we will return a clear, like for like comparison.
